He married Margaret Penman 3rd June 1911. Margaret was born Glasgow 18th November 1885. Margaret was the daughter of James Penman and Elizabeth McLaren. Margaret died 23rd March 1969 at 83 years of age.

John Shaw and Margaret Penman had the following children:

2 i. Elizabeth² Shaw (living status unknown).

3 ii. Margaret Shaw was born 12th May 1914. Margaret died 26th December 1963 at 49 years of age. She married Arthur Hunter 1st June 1940. (See Arthur Hunter for the continuation of this line.)

4 iii. Joan Butterworth Shaw was born 19th November 1920. Joan died 28th April 1978 at 57 years of age.
